Introduction

As an affiliated club of England Hockey, HWHC is proud to support and contribute to the national game. Our club’s membership with England Hockey provides a wide range of benefits — not just for the club in its operations and development, but for every player, coach, umpire and volunteer involved in our club community.

Below is a summary of what that membership includes and how it supports you and the club.

Benefits for the club and individual members

Through our club membership with England Hockey for the 2025-26 season, the club and our members receive:

• Access to free coaching and development courses in coaching, officiating/umpiring and safeguarding for players and volunteers.
• National insurance cover including, amongst other things, personal accident cover (see below).
• Access to partner offers and discounts.
• Free-to-air broadcast coverage of high-profile hockey events (e.g. Super 6s Finals, EHL Premier Finals, England/GB matches).
• A dedicated online “Hockey Hub” and resources portal containing training materials, marketing assets, insight dashboards and club support materials.
• Access to the “National Hockey Fund” for state schools and EDI (Equity, Diversity & Inclusion) initiatives – helping to expand our pool of youth players and open more opportunities to under-represented communities.
• The ability for the club to run participation programmes (e.g. Back to Hockey, Flyerz, Walking Hockey) under the England Hockey umbrella and promote hockey for all ages and abilities.

National Insurance Cover

The insurance cover is arranged by Marsh Sport on behalf of England Hockey for clubs like HWHC, and includes public liability, professional indemnity, directors and officers, employers liability, abuse, equipment and personal accident cover.

This section summarises the key elements of the insurance cover. The full policy wording and schedules should be consulted for all terms, conditions, exclusions and excesses.

The policy covers:

• HWHC club members, coaches and umpires while representing the club. 
• HWHC club officials, helpers and volunteers acting for the club. 
• Non-members / prospective members are covered for up to three “taster” sessions. 
• The club (its committee/board) and the club as the legal entity.

Activities covered by the policy include:

• HWHC club activities, including training for and the playing of hockey, hockey festivals, tournaments as well as social, fundraising and administrative activities, subject to appropriate risk assessments.
• A HWHC club member who causes injury, damage or financial loss to a fellow member or third party.

The policy includes personal accident cover which provides a set financial payment in the event of an accidental injury, as detailed in the schedule of benefits (see links below).

Age limits apply: cover typically from age 2 up to 85 (with reduced benefits for older ages) under the personal accident part of the policy. 

The scheme and policy is not designed to cover every possible injury or eventuality: individuals may choose to take out supplementary insurance if they deem it necessary. 

Incidents that might lead to a claim must be reported promptly to Marsh Sport on 0345 872 5060 (link to the Personal Accident Claim Form below). Delays could prejudice the club’s and/or member's cover. Injuries should also be reported to your team captain so that they can be registered on the internal HWHC incident report.

There are excesses applicable: e.g., £250 for third-party property damage claims, £100 for equipment, £25 for certain physiotherapy claims etc.
