Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club

Established in 1894 and based at Paddington Recreation Ground in Maida Vale, Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club (HWHC) is London’s most centrally located hockey club, making it ideal for those who live and work in and around London.

We are an England Hockey ClubMark, Talent Centre and Talent Academy accredited club with over 1,000 members and provide junior, adult and masters hockey for all abilities and backgrounds.

Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club

Senior Performance (c.70 members): 2 Men's and 2 Ladies teams in the England Hockey National League (EHL), and 1 Ladies team in the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2026;

Senior Non-performance (c.210 members): 6 Men's and 5 Ladies teams in the London Hockey Adult League;

Masters (c.40 members aged 40+): 3 Men's teams in the London Hockey Masters League;

Juniors (600 members aged 5 to 18): 28 Junior teams in various England, London and regional hockey leagues; and

Talent Academy: 2 Talent Academy teams (boys & girls U15-U18).

Three Juniors Play EHL Premier Division Hockey

A first for the club, three juniors were selected in the match day squad to play for the Ladies 1s against Reading in the EHL Premier Division. This was also the first time U16s had been selected to play EHL Premier Division level hockey.

U19 Boys play in the EHCO Trophy at SV Kampong

After winning the National Tier 1 Cup Final as U18 Boys last season, HWHC secured the English spot in the annual EHCO Trophy alongside The Netherlands (Rotterdam), Germany (Wespen), Spain (RC Polo), Belgium (Waterloo Ducks) and South Africa.

A. SEASON SUMMARY

🔹 2024–25 Season Overview

The 2024–25 season was one of the most successful in the club’s history, highlighted by a first major European title for the Women's 1s and continued strength across all sections of the club.

HWHC fielded over 1,000 playing members across senior, masters and junior hockey, with strong representation in national leagues, local competitions and England Hockey’s talent pathway.

B. FEATURE STORIES

🔹 Jake Glew

At just 15 years old, Jake Glew became the youngest player to appear in and score in the Men’s Premier Division for Hampstead & Westminster HC.

Jake’s rapid progression from the junior pathway into senior elite hockey — alongside England U16 recognition and the Hockey Writers’ Club U16 Player of the Year award — reflects the strength of the club’s long-term player development model.

🔹 European Champions - Women's 1s

The Ladies 1s delivered one of the greatest achievements in club history, progressing unbeaten through the competition to secure Hampstead & Westminster HC’s first major European title.

🔹 London Masters O50 Champions - Supervets

Masters hockey continued to thrive, with the Supervets (O50) side winning the London Hockey League South Masters Premier Division title.

E. PERFORMANCE SUMMARY

🔹 England Hockey Leagues

The club continued to compete at the highest level of domestic hockey, with strong performances across both men’s and women’s programmes.

  • Women's 1s: Premier Division winners (regular season) & 3rd place in the finals playoffs
  • Men’s 1s: 5th place finish
  • Women's 2s: 2nd in Conference East (narrowly missed promotion)
  • Men's 2s: mid-table finish in Conference East

🔹 EuroHockey League 2026

The Women's 1s again qualified for the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2026 to be held in Vienna.

🔹 London Leagues & Masters

  • Strong participation across 11 senior teams
  • Multiple teams achieving top-half finishes
  • Supervets (O50s) won their league
  • Continued depth across all divisions

F. JUNIOR & TALENT SECTION

🔹 Junior & Talent Pathway to Senior Hockey

The junior section continued to thrive, with over 600 players and strong representation across national and regional competitions.

Highlights:

  • U18 Boys – National Tier 1 Cup Winners
  • U14 Boys – National Tier 2 Plate winners
  • Multiple teams reaching area and national finals
  • Tours to The Netherlands and The Hague
  • The club managed six teams for the London Youth Games, representing Westminster, Camden and Kensington & Chelsea

🔹 Talent Development

  • England Hockey Talent Centre accreditation maintained
  • Talent Academy licence extended (3 years)
  • 25% of U13–U18 players reached county level or above

G. INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS & COACHING EXCELLENCE

🔹 17 international players and coaches delivering sessions across the club

The club’s international players and coaches play a central role in delivering a high-performance environment across all sections of HWHC.

Senior international players contribute extensively to the coaching and delivery of Junior, Talent Academy, Senior & Masters sessions and matches, providing players with direct access to elite-level experience and expertise.

🔹 Operating costs exceed income

The cost of operating a large multi-section hockey club in central London — while maintaining elite performance programmes and accessible junior hockey — significantly exceeds income generated through subscriptions and match fees alone.

Support from members, alumni, parents, volunteers and sponsors is fundamental to the club’s ability to deliver hockey at every level, for which we are extremely grateful.
