The Sunday schedule allows players to attend both GK training and their age group session. They can train in goal for both sessions, or play outfield for age group training.
U12 - U16 goalkeepers are also welcome to attend midweek training. This is not GK specific - they train with outfield players. Midweek training details can be found here.
Kit
Club GK kits are available to borrow for the season.
GKs are welcome to get a HWHC GK jersey via Hawkin Sport. Go up at least one shirt size to allow for body armour under the GK jersey.

We offer support to players who need financial assistance with membership fees.

Please contact the Head of Youth & Development for further information.
Protective kit
Shin pads and a mouth guard are mandatory for all training sessions and matches. Players under 18 are not allowed to take part without this protection.
Basic mouth guards that you mould at home can be purchased on Amazon or Sports Direct. For those playing regularly, we recommend getting a mouth guard fitted by the dentist. Willow Tree Dental in Swiss Cottage offers a discount to HWHC members.
Those playing in Tier 1 & Tier 2 should have astro shoes rather than trainers, a left hand glove, and hockey face mask if they are involved in defending penalty corners.
For beginners, trainers are fine. Football studs are not to be worn on astro.
Club kit
Our club kit supplier is Hawkin Sport and the online club shop is available HERE.
Please select "Junior Kit" from the menu on the left hand side. Players move to adult sizes from around U14, depending on their height.
U6-U8: There is a plain white playing shirt which is a more cost effective option than the club playing shirt.
U9+: The home playing shirt starts in size 26 which is approx age 6-7.
Girls: A female style shirt is available from size 32 (Women's Size 10).
If you are ordering a club playing shirt for the first time, please indicate the age group on your order and Hawkin Sport will allocate a number to be printed on the back.
Club kit is required for U12-U18 Tier 1 & Tier 2 players: home playing shirt, skort/shorts, socks.
Players competing in Tier 1 leagues only will also need a red away playing shirt and red socks.
We expect Tier 3 players who are regularly taking part in matches to have a club home playing shirt, skort/shorts and socks.
Players taking part in festivals can wear any white top if they do not want to purchase club kit.
If your child is not taking part in many matches, club kit is optional.
Sports bibs
All U9-U16 players need a HWHC club sports bib. This will be used for training and matches if there is a kit clash with the opposition. The bib is reversible (navy & red). Please write the player name in the white space provided on the bib when you get it!
You can order your bib online from Hawkin Sport.
Thank you to Willow Tree Dental for sponsoring the bibs. Their dental practice is in Swiss Cottage and you can get a discount on professionally moulded mouth guards when you let the know you’re a HWHC member.
https://www.willowtreedental.co.uk/
Hockey sticks
Players are welcome to borrow a club hockey stick for training. Please make sure it is returned at the end of each session. We do not take spare sticks to matches.
If you need help buying a stick, there is a helpful guide on the Grays hockey website.
Second hand kit
We regularly hold second hand kit sales. Details for sales are sent via email.
If you have kit in good condition that you no longer require, please drop it at Paddington Recreation Ground. There is a second hand kit donation box in the storage container at the end of the sprint track. All club kit is gratefully received, along with astro shoes, shin pads and hockey sticks.
All players in U9 - U12 age groups are invited to take part in Mega or Mini League tournaments.
Tournaments are optional. Players who do not wish to take part can attend a combined training session on tournament dates:
U9/U10 Boys and U9/U10 Girls: 11.45am - 1pm at Paddington Rec Ground (3G pitch).
U11/U12 Boys and U11/U12 Girls: 10am – 11.15am at Paddington Rec Ground (water based pitch).
One U12 Girls team take part in the Performance league in addition to Mega League tournaments.
Selection for these additional fixtures is primarily made from the squads attending midweek training.
There are 13 league teams from U13 - U18, playing from Tier 1 to Tier 4. Please see the attached overview for the level of each squad.
Please read the attached document for the fixture process.

Hockey can be played in most weather conditions. We appreciate that cold, wind and rain are not particularly pleasant conditions for players or spectators but we try and go ahead with training and fixtures as much as possible.
We will always let you know if there is an issue and if anything is cancelled, you will be informed via Teamo.
We are unable to respond to individual emails regarding the weather.
Please try not to fill message groups with questions about the weather as it makes it very difficult to identify an important message if there is a change to the plan.
We manage up to 30 different training sessions and fixtures each week, across multiple locations. An issue at one location does not impact every other location so please check Teamo and we will tell you if there are any changes.
Please ensure that players are dressed appropriately for the weather! They can play hockey in base layers, a waterproof, hat & gloves. A dry change of clothes for after training or a match are also helpful.
Please be prepared for British weather and get out to enjoy hockey as much as possible :)

Parents and carers play a big role in encouraging children to take part in sport or physical activity, which is important if we want our children to live healthy and active lifestyles.
Knowing how to best support your child can be difficult, especially during emotional times like matches, performances, competitions or selection stages.
How to support your child emotionally and practically in sport
Please read the England Hockey Spirit of Hockey and Behaviour Expectation documents below.
Code of Conduct at HWHC
If your behaviour, as a player, coach, umpire or spectator, does not align with the Spirit of Hockey, you will be given a verbal warning. If behaviour does not improve, the issue will be escalated to the HWHC Technical Committee for review. Sanctions may include removing the offender from their role, asking them not to attend fixtures or training as a spectator, or removal from the club.
If the offender does not agree with a decision made by the Technical Committee, they may escalate the issue to the HWHC Board.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
